How we help
Getting your driver's licence takes time and practice. Our program matches young learner drivers who do not have access to an adult with a drivers license with a volunteer mentor who can provide driving practice in the L2P car. What we provide
- a shared car for driving practice
- support from a fully licensed adult
- help to log your hours
- regular practice sessions
Our friendly mentors help you reach the minimum 120 hours of practice you need for your license. We're here to support young people who have no access to a fully licensed driver. To be eligible for a learner position, you must meet the following criteria. You:
- are between 16 and 21 years old - and, in some cases, up to 23 years old
- are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, including refugees and new arrivals
- have a Victorian learner’s permit
- don’t have access to a safe supervising driver who can help you practise your driving, or
you don’t have access to a suitable vehicle
- are medically fit to drive
- aren’t an overseas student
- are not already in a TAC L2P program.

We receive government funding to provide this service. This means you will pay no fee or a small fee, depending on your situation. We'll always talk through the cost before we get started.
This service is provided at no cost for eligible learner drivers.
You may be able to make care more affordable through Medicare rebates, your private health insurance or other funding support. We're here to help you understand all your options.
NDIS fee schedule
As a registered NDIS provider, we understand that planning your NDIS support takes time and careful thought. A key part of your decision-making is knowing exactly what things cost. We make our prices clear before you start services so you can choose the support that works best for you.
If you're eligible for the L2P learner driver mentor program, you can apply in a few simple steps:
- Log in to your myVicRoads account or create an account
- Go to 'licences and learner permits'
- Scroll down and select 'apply as a learner in the TAC L2P program'.
